Representing the Life after Coal Campaign (LAC) and the Fair Finance Coalition Southern Africa (FFCSA), we have provided comments on the draft document titled, “Scaling Finance to Support a Just Transition: The Potential of Just Transition Financing Mechanism” (“JTFM report”). This was released for comment on December 5, 2023, with a deadline on January 25, 2024.

On 27 March 2023, the Presidential Climate Commission in South Africa hosted the Integrated Energy Transition Dialogue for civil society on implementing the JET-IP.
The Fair Finance Coalition of Southern Africa and The Life after Coal Campaign submitted comments to the PCC.
On 27 February 2023, the Fair Finance Coalition of Southern Africa held a media briefing on the JET-IP in Johannesburg. The FFCSA strongly urges the Presidential Climate Commission to increase the participation of affected communities, and transparency.
On the 22nd of October 2022, the Fair Finance Coalition Southern Africa hosted a Town Hall on Climate Finance, and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (Jet-P). The first of its kind event was attended by over 50 people in person, and more online. Speakers included a Presidential Climate Commissioner, and community members who covered the basics of climate finance, what is needed for the transition in the Southern African context, and experiences from communities.
